FACING EMOTIONAL CHALLENGES FROM 50 TO 85+ YEARS
by: Viola Mecke, PhD, ABPP

Growing older brings many thoughts of "I wish I knew that before." This book provides information to help us age as well as possible. Surprisingly, our feelings do not age. Contentment and Satisfaction increase with age and interface with Loneliness, Fears, Sorrow and Losses.
At a time when life is thought easier, new problems and situations arise that are challenging. These problems are related to the stages of aging. Four stages of aging are identified: the initiation to aging about fifty years of age, changes in life following retirement, a gradual acceptance of being older, and the final years of eighty-five and older.  Feelings about the self, relationships with partners and family, and social patterns are discussed for each phase. Coping and problem solving techniques help the older person select the best resolution for themselves.
